Same service, new name

The online application form for trademark registrations has a new name. From 6 March 2024, the application form you are used to seeing can be found in My BOIP under ‘Register a trademark (advanced)'.

Is only the name changing?

Only the name for the online application form is changing, from ‘Register a trademark’ to ‘Register a trademark (advanced)'. The content of the form remains the same, so nothing changes for you.

If you log in to My BOIP from 6 March 2024, clicking on ‘Register a trademark (advanced)’ will bring you to the online application form you are used to seeing.

Why a new name?

The change in name has been brought about by the launch of a simplified version of the application form for inexperienced applicants. That version will be tested as of 6 March under ‘Register a trademark (basic)’. The simplified form allows only word marks or figurative marks to be registered and harmonised terms to be selected. Also, the simplified form cannot be used to register trademarks for third parties.

With this "basic" form BOIP is aiming to better serve those entrepreneurs who have no experience with trademark registration and who specifically choose to apply for registration themselves. With that in mind, the terminology used has been better adapted to them, and more help texts have been provided.

This is explicitly a beta version, which we can use to follow how customers move through the form when filling it in and find out where we can improve our service.
