Call for attention: irregular ‘Change of representative’ requests

Recently, the EUIPO reported irregular 'Change of representative' requests, submitted by unauthorised third parties seeking to replace legitimate IP representatives with fictitious entities.

While BOIP has not experienced such incidents, we want to reassure our users that we have measures in place to minimise the risk of similar occurrences.

Firstly, changes to representation in BOIP records are subject to a mandatory fee, which serves as an initial barrier against unauthorised or fraudulent attempts. Secondly, we have implemented a verification step that includes double-checking suspicious change requests submitted by representatives. These measures should reduce the likelihood of fraud and ensure the accuracy of our records. Finally, particularly in view of the recent incidents at the EUIPO, we remain vigilant and proactive in checking the activity in My BOIP accounts.

If you have any concerns or encounter suspicious activity in your account, please contact us directly. Together, we can ensure continued reliability of the Benelux trademarks and design records.
